MAKOS

SAVVY 18 & MAHI MAHI,
You both are certainly RIGHT but, If you fish with a bunch of guys and you have a small boat and can't get out as often as you want, and they help to pay for fuel and bait it's nice if they could take a few mako steaks home for dinner! They deserve it! I have to suppress my concern when a Capt. on a 40' Hatteras nails me for taking some school tuna from my 23' boat when his corporation is footing his bill for the boat, gas and bail. It's almost like taking a kid fishing, but an adult group! Not everyone has a big boat and big budget (which consumers pay for) to go out every weekend and fish. Some are not as fortunate and/or can't fish that often!
GOOD FISHING-BUT DON'T PICK ON THE LITTLE GUY!

FIRST MAKO

Last year I took 4-5 shark trips, loosing two legal makos. If I managed to land one only one I DON'T THINK I AM KILLING ALL THE FISH IN THE SEA. My crew would like to take home some steaks-EXCUSE ME! I'm not killing off the stock! The small boater is the not the problem-he can't get out that much. If you wan't to talk about conservation- talk about the MACHO big boats who hang their sharks from the rail (gin pole) like Vikings every weekend when thay come back to the dock, like cod out of M<ontauk in the 70's hayday from the rails dooing this every weekend to show off! I don't think if I take 1 100lb mako a year it's going to extinct the species!
