Just read on another site of the first Mako of the season taken offshore of New Jersy. It wasn't big (100lbs) but was taken on a small 3 lb bluefish on the surface. He said water temps were cold(56 degrees)
It won't be long now!!!!

first mako

Mako Mike,
I know June is the time they start, depending on water temps and bait but this guy took this one a few days ago, almost a full month early.

No Problem...

On my boat "Bad Attitude" I have just a few rules. One rule is a mako has to be at least 125 lbs. The other rule is only one per trip.I had to argue with a guy I took from work once because he wanted to keep a 25 lb pup. He told me"look at all that meat." Needless to say the pup was released unharmed. Its guys with this mentality that scare me.If he had a boat, that pup would of been in his cooler. There are alot of guys like him. Those are the kind of guys that need to be educated on this matter. We only make about 6-10 shark trips a year, last year only went out two or three times. My crew might only take an average of three makos a season,I don't see a problem with this. When I fish alone inshore I release everything I catch.A mako steak on the grill every now and then don't seem like a bad thing,in fact I can go for one right now.Guys, use your head.
Release a fish every now and then.
