Actually you also forgot to mention another very important early spring fish that we have been jigging, called COD

I never thought I would include grouper as first fish to target with jigs within driving range. But NC is a little too far from LI.
I am leaving tomorrow night for Morehead City, NC for grouper jigging. I'll post pictures as soon as I come back from the trip.
