When I was a kid I used to be a lifeguard at Riis park and Fort Tilden and we had a couple of people every year who stepped on one int he surf. They inflict a nasty wound that has to be treated at a hospital to make sure they get all of the barb out. Don't screw around with these fish, especially from shore.

okay who can pick out MakoMike

LOL...funny photoshop John!
Nice edit, Joe;)

Mike...you were a lifeguard at Riis? That's Gateway Natl (Federal) Park, not Rockaway Beach (NYC) where that pic was taken. I think the pic text reads Seaside so it 's probably Beach 108st-Beach 102st. Were you there when the Nike missiles were at Tilden, MM? I believe they removed them in '72. You guys had also had that cold beer on tap at those concession stands
But then again....you also had Bay 1. Bay 1 used to be a nude beach on the east end of Gateway. The problem was (as me and my other 15yr old friends found out)...the desired "attractions" were usually far outnumbered by the shriveled, sagging, hard-to-look-at 65+ yr old males on parade who walked around constantly blocking our views
aahhhhh...back in the day.

btw....are we talking about sea robins?

Back then there was no Gateway national park. According to the caption on the photo the pic was taken at beach 79 street in Rockaway. I worked one season for the city at Riis Park and then a couple or three more for the Offcier's club at Ft. Tilden. Yes the Nike missles were there when I was workig there. Got to see all that stuff through some of the officres I met on the beach.

Mike,

You mis-spelled 'orifices' TWICE in that one post.

Here....I'll fix it for you:
