Hey Guys,

This reel really caught my attention--Everol 12/20..Its a size of Penn 12LT, and has 23lb of drag out of the box..extremely fast free spool, tiburon frames, and can hold enormous line capacity. Does anyone have anye experience with those, or heard anything?? Its really light, and I was gonna use that for jigging tuna matched with grafigher 700M or something of that sort. So let me know what you guys think

Andrew,
I had two or three of them as well as a bunch of everols that I sold a year and a half ago because I sold all my tuna stuff.Guess what,I'm buying the tuna stuff again, just have to do it! I had the super 12/20's that I trolled school tuna, false albies, mahi's and bonita with. Its a super reel on a 20 lb rod.I'm not sure about getting 23 lbs of drag out of the box, maybe after it was tweaked out but I use to set the drags around 12-14 lbs with 40 lb test and it was fine. They have great drags, pretty smooth gearing and their built like tanks.I'll be adding them again to my arsenal. They are also very affordable compared to other lever drag reels.

Paulie,

Thanks for the reply. do you think this reel is good for jigging tuna off party boats?? it looks nice and small.Just what I like. I also want to use it for night bluefishing. What do you use for jigging tuna??? But I would put like 80lb spectra with maybe 50lb top shot momoi diamond line. Let me know what u think. Thanks.

I love mine.

Holds 65/300 spectra with a 100+ yard top shot of 40lb mono. Out of the box it max's 21-24lbs.

If you want to go 80 and 50, I'd go up to the 30's. They're not topless frames though.

For a topless frame that can fish 80 there's the Tiburon SST's. Nice but pricey.

Andrew,
he's right,I wouldn't put 80 lb line on a 12/20. I think 50 lb would be my max.It would be a good setup for jigging tuna and could also be used for horsing in bluefish. If your going to be into bigger tuna look into the 20/30 waterproof class or even the 30/50's.

Thanks for the info guys...What rod would you match that 12/20 with to jig for tuna??? I agree, i think 50lb line would be more than enough since the tuna taken on jigs will not be more than like 40lb.

Morning. Thought I'd add my two cents and update a little. Indeed, the Super 12-20 is a nice little job. Simple and sturdy. Maintenance (or lack of it) is a breeze. The one-piece frames are no longer supplied by Tiburon, though- All frames for all sizes are now CNC manufactured in-house by Everol.

And indeed, the current frames for the larger sizes are not topless. However, the prototype two-speed Super Automatic 30 does in fact have a hand-made topless frame, with lugs even. I'll see if I can arrange a picture.

Max drag? Don't know exactly. Like Rolls-Royce likes to say about their horsepower: Ample. So twenty-odd, sure. More when tweaked; I think Tunatoys had one going at thirtyish.

BobECT and others was onto something there with the 80#, though...50# okay, but if you want to fish heavy-duty with heavy-duty line, it may be wise to step up to a heavier-duty reel like the 30. Keep it somewhat balanced, if you know what I mean.
Hope this helped.
Doc.

PS edited for spelling, info and pic. Sorry.

Whups, just realized that I should clarify that the clutch discs in the picture are not from the Automatic 30; they're from a 6/0 and 14 & 18/0 respectively. The gears are right, though. Sorry for any confusion.

Fishing 80#

I have set up some 12-20's for 80# spectra. I have custom spools available with more capacity and larger bearings. Cost of spool with abec grade 5 bearings is $85.00
Installed in your super 12-20 with freespooler and blueprinted 25+# of drag $125.00
