This is a fishing site, and any posts not related to fishing have a good chance of being deleted. We have considered adding an Off Topic forum but it's not really something I think we need to deal with at this time.

You must also remember that we have many youngsters age 5 and up that visit this site and read our magazine and we need to have all content suitable for them also.

So please get back to fishing so I can get back to working on the next upgrade of the site.

As far as I remember there was no questionable content in that thread and strangely enough it was addressing that very issue!
As for fishing...it's the dead of winter and all reasonable questions and debates have already run their course, so comic relief is at a premium currently.
Fishing is life to many, and with this type of passion many times discussions will stray away from the main focus. This phenomenon should not fall victim to obtuse censorship, but be allowed to vent itself here and there like a pressure valve. It keeps the system healthy and honest.

This is my last comment on this subject

Our boards are designed for the free exchange of fishing information, whatever time of years it is. They are not designed to discuss world news, even though I agree they are important subjects. Topics will stray from time to time and the VAST majority of those are left alone, but unfortunately there are times when things get out of hand and they need to be dealt with.

In a perfect Internet world we wouldn?t need moderators, but too many people fell they can post and act whatever and however they like, and if we allowed that these boards would be nothing but a waste of time to all of our members.

I should also point out that I have received numerous emails in support of how we?re handling these boards and judging by the hundreds of relevant posts daily, I?d say we?re doing a good job.

George,
I think you havea great site here. But having said that, and having been involved in several very popular fishing sites, I do think you need an off topic area. People being people, threads will drift and an off topic "lounge" area, is a handy place for mederators to stick those off topic replies and still allow memebers to contine their "coversations." That's my 2 cents! :)

I vote to keep this site as a fishing only site. I do not think that we need an off topic section. I also commend George for deleting those off topic postings.

If there is a strong interest for a place to make off topic postings then one or more of the interested parties should get together and start a new board for these sort of things.

As far as I know there is no internet rule stating that if someone sponsors a discussion board, then all postings must be kept on that board without censoring. Again, its easy enough for anyone to start a new board and the person repsonsible for the board can choose to either censor or not.

Thanks for clearing that up! Doesn't being so obvious get a little boring? By the way, you are off the fishing topic.

George-
Of course this is primarily a fishing site, but guess what -fishermen are people and have other intellectual needs on a site than just mono vs braid and glass vs graphite. At the bash a good part of the ADULT conversation will be chuckling over some of the rather colorful postings and characters on the site. Also there will be a lot of Adult drinking going on.I stress the word adult because 99% of your readership are males over the age of 20.Guys with MUCHO DISPOSABLE INCOME.Do you and your advertisers want to cater to them or the 5-teenage romper room crowd you are worried about with zero dollars for your coffers. As for off topics would 9-11.the shuttle crash ,or even Mattys grandpa passing away be banned from this site.Totally absurd.Look ,it's the dead of winter -guys are crazed to get back to fishing and so Adults are cutting it up a little. Is that so bad?Believe me once we are fishing again every day,all we'll be talking about is "the one that got away" etc.I say this censorship nonsense has gotten more out of hand than the shenanigans that prompted it.Ok- do we need an off topic area -maybe-was some of the stuff "overboard"-sure-But have you done a disservice to the very people who support your publication the most ,Both financially and philosophically-I believe so.
