Hi All,

I may be going to the UK for two weeks in May- do you know of any party/head boats that bottom/wreck fish that's within a 2hr or so drive from Heathrow Airport? I'd be going by myself so I really don't want to charter a boat myself. Thanks!

Dude,

Do you like dogfishing? How about targeting skates? That's what you will get saltwater fishing in southern UK. Cod is in moratorium. Seabass (kind of like a striper, but smaller) are around like bass in the 80s. It's not great here at all. That's the thing I hate about living here.

Do you fly fish for trout? There are some stocked rainbow ponds near London with some seriously huge bows. Like 10-15 lbers.

This place is supposed to be good. It's 1:45 from Heathrow.

all those wartime wrecks and the fishing isn't good ?

what happened to the cod over there ? they got so many places to hide (in the wrecks) . How many ships sunk off England during the 2 world wars ?
I remember spending a day in Brighton and I saw a charter boat come back with a whole barrel of big cod. That was 1985.

It's not a lack of numbers, it's a lack of fish. All of Europe have been cod fishing these waters for a long time. They've swept the sea clean.

Don't get me wrong, there are a few cod caught here and there (mostly in the winter in Southern England). Pollack are a bit more prevalent. Compared to a trip in the US though, it's not great. The further north you go, the better the saltwater fishing gets apparently. Since the OP needs to stay near Heathrow, that's not an option though.
