electronic's and brackets

Has anyone manufactured there own brackets for electronics? I just bought the Garmin 182C and because of the design of the unit and the bracket, you can only mount it on a console or recess it into a box. I have a problem with space. I wanted to flush mount it underneath the eletronics box. It will not interfer with my view. However it looks like I will have to make a bracket for the unit. Any comments or help would be appreciated. Thanks Bubba
