did anybody run around Eatons over the weekend ?...I ran from the Lilco ramp to Greenwich on Sat. When I came around Eatons in 20ft of water, high tide...there was a sunken barge, complete with construction equipment submerged right off the coast guard station...at high water you could see the boom of a small crane and some other stuff...wasnt marked...anybody have the story behind this

south of 13, in 22 ft of water...directly in front of the Coast Guard station...I doubt they hit a rock that deep, theres nothing that comes up that high...but who knows. I wonder what they will do...salvage it ?...drag it flat...it def needs to be addressed...the boom and super structure of whatever is down there was well above the surface at high tide.

Friday's tide was pretty big, if it hit something at low tide (8 foot difference) there are a few in there that come to within a couple of feet of the surface. I haven't seen it, so I could never say, but it is possible. Unlikely, but possible. I would imagine that they would try to salvage it. Judging by what you saw of it, was it fairly large, or one of those small ones like they use to move morings? No that it matters, as it can't stay like that.

Matty, is the rig marked with buoys, or is that unnecessary due to the top of the crane?

presumably the Coasties have seen it, but you think they would have marked it to keep the curious away, although there are very few boats out at this time of year...

need some pics!

Northport crane/barge

Nah, can't be the same one AnthonyAle, I know the one you are talking about, and I just saw it anchored over by sand city again yesterday.

It's been in and out of there for the past week and a half or so now.

It's huge, I wonder what it's doing there?

Sunken Barge

Guys
The the barge w/the crane setup anchored in NPT Bay is the vessel being used to raise the barge the sunk of the Eastons Neck Coast Guard station. The barge was being used to dredge the channel leading into the coast guard station. It was anchored of the neck and sunk sometime in March during a windstorm. Hope this helps.

Heard the barge knew rough seas were coming as they were heading to Mt. Sinai. Instead of turning back and laying over around sand city ,they tried to keep going. When they rounded the lighthouse the waves continually broached the boat and due to hatches being left open.... This is what I heard form a heavy local. Truth is? Who knows.
