Split System

If your talking condenser outside and colling inside, they work great. We put the in all the areas with large main frame computers to keep them cool. They worked great in the labs. in Metropolitan Hospital. The brand your looking at has very little maintenance just clean the condenser twice a year. There is some that are at least 20 years old.

I have seen them with 1 condenser and 2 wall mounted cooling units and 2 thermostats.

MM these IMO would not be good for a entire house. Each room would have a Approx. 18" x 40" unit on wall and will have an army of condensers in the yard. They would be great for a basement.

Just remember every unit needs 2 copper pipes between them for the freon

Their best suited to cool a large open area if you want to cool individual rooms they sell a split system multi zone 1 condensor unit and 3 blowers anymore than that your better off going with central

That?s what I thought when I saw the units; thanks.

I guess I will stay with my wall mounded air conditioner on the main floor (high ranch, no basement) and live on that floor during the really hot days like I have been doing the past few years.

I might have to move my TV down there if it is a long hot summer:rolleyes:

Thanks, but that is out of my budget plans for this year.

I did call Keyspan about the possibility of switching over to natural gas heat last December. There is a gas line on my street, and they run the first 75? (I think that is the number, maybe it was 100?) was ?free? and there was a cost per each additional foot.

My home needed extra footage (of course:rolleyes: ) and it would have ended up costing me a lot more than the new 550 gallon underground oil tank I had installed.

My back yard is starting to get back into shape now, but I still don?t have gas service to my home.

I've installed a few of these ductless units and remember that these units have drain lines that need to go outside or in a trap and if you chose a trap then you'll need an auto feeder to keep the trap full of water when not in use.
Pros and cons to everything and each situation is different. Give some more info like maybe floor lay out and interior existing finish for better answeres.

One of the pros for the units is that most are sold as heat and A/C and having the heat as back-up (theyre electric of course) would be one of the pros if your burner doesnt work during the winter.

So did anyone get this unit this year? I know given the temperature outside the past couple of days it is not exactly the best time to be discussing air conditioners but,,,

I am looking into it again, for my parents this time. (They are redoing their kitchen and living rooms and want to get rid of the wall mounted units) If they go with it and like it I can see if it is something that is feasible at my home.

They could be the guinea pigs ;)

They are not electric heat, they are heat pump units. The slim design of these units do not allow room for the heating elements required for their size.As far as the condensate, these units have micro pumps(optional)that lay under the pan in with the lineset that do not need a trap. They pump directly to the outside.Only a 3/8 clear plastic tube to wherever you want it to go.I just installed one of the Mr. Slims for a buddy of mine who converted his garage to a family room.A one ton unit a/c only will run about a grand.Thats evap, condenser, pad, whip and 50' line set.
