Hi Al great site my question is,why are we setting our drags at 1/3 line test.I would think we should take full advantage or at least 80% of the full test.Even with knot loss 1/3 seems as if we are losing too much especially with the new lines
Many knots will loose you 20-30% of the line test. Plus you have to take into account the fact that as you loose line, the effective drag increases, so if you loose half the spool you have almost twice as much drag as you set with the spool full. And all this doesn't even take into account less than perfect drags, friction through the guides. etc. etc.
mako mike didn't think of loose line drag had thought of guides.Less than perfect drags i should have known I don't mind the 1/3 just wondering how the number was arrived at and if "new" ways and new days had made it obsolete thanks for the reply
