For the same boat as an express or convertable in a Downeaster if it was built in Maine it would be cheaper.

The problem with the question is that every Downeaster is custom built. My boat is a fishing boat, we didn't want to spent hours Sunday night clearing the boat after the weekend. We had the boat built to make cleaning easy. OUR CHOICE. If you look on Yachtworld there is a 42' Wesmac called the Rebel. The boat is finished down below in cherry wood. More expense but it was HIS CHOICE.

What you put into the boat and how expensive it is, is YOUR CHOICE.

Hope this helps.

I am going through the final stages of the building a 38 Northern bay as we speak. Im not sure if you are referring to my posts, but it's quite possible.

As it's been stated, prices are all over the place on DE boats depending on the level of finish. You pretty much get what you pay for when building one. I have seen them finished off for much less then I have into mine and they can be very rough. My boat is certainly not yacht finish and its far from a commercial guys finish. I would say mine is somewhere in between.

If you were to go out and build my boat - just like I have it expect to spend 250-300K depending on how you rig it. I feel like I have alot of boat for what it costs me. Some guys say I have too much into it and other's think it's a bargin.

I can tell you that I didnt cut any corners when it came to hardware or materials when it came to building my boat. I am very anxious to finish my seatrials and get her home!

I am also producing a dvd containing over 2 hours of photo and video which documents the construction of my boat. If anyone is interested I could get you a copy once I have it complete.

To see a short version you can go on you tube and view my 10 minute video posted on there, just search for Northern Bay.

Anyone who wants to talk more feel free to email [email protected]

As much as I would love to own a beautiful DE like those, the cost is totally out of range. At those prices,
it would be another mortgage.
I too follow all these DE threads and really enjoy watching them grow.
So, my question is this. How many of you guys building these DE are in the charter business? I can sorta understand spending that kind of money for a business venture, but are many being built solely for personaly / pleasure use?

............I guess I'll need to save a lot more returns

If you look at a 36 Albemarle, going for $500,000 then Outbounds boat thats a crazy deal if you ask me. Not only are you getting a bigger boat but your getting a boat that can handle the crap that gets thrown at us in the NE canyons. Also you are calling the shots on exactly what goes into the boat.

Bill I sent you an email.
