I am considering having a fair amount of work done to my 31' JC with a flying bridge and a 300 HP John Deere Engine and looking for a reputable builder who does this work. The first thing I want to do is remove the radar arch, flying bridge and everything else up above.
Once flyig bridge is removed I want to have a piece glassed in where the cutout for the ladder goes. The ladder on the starboard side will be removed along with a small storage box which is up against the starboard wheelhouse.
Once off, I want to see the plywood decks cut out along with the deck supports and replace with a cored material and fiberglass stringers. Along with this will be new hatches including a fish box with a macerator pump.
Once open, check out the condition of the fuel tanks and see if replacement is needed. The current ones are aluminum and the boat is a 1999.
I also want to have some interior work done down below such as changing the full berth to a v-berth, removing the existing cabinets and replacing with shelves using cored panels to lighten the load.
I need to rewire the boat and was thinking of actually removing the John Deere 6076 and having it gone through, replacing gaskets, seals, pumps, etc and giving it a fresh coat of paint along with the reduction gear.
If we do this I would be interested in having a fresh coat of gelcoat in the engine room.
I realize this is costly but I feel if I want to keep running the boat it could use some cosmetic work which will also lighten her up and may improve fuel efficency.
If anyone has any recommendations, don't be shy aboaut it.
