I made a oops!

Since its been common practice these days to scale down the tackle while chunking the canyons I decided to ditch the cheaper Billfisher swivels that I normally use and picked up some Spro swivels (size 2, 230 lbs). ANYWAY...I was in a hurry and didnt look at the swivels themselves, just the information on the label. Later that night while badly suffering from cabin fever I decided to start tying some chunk rigs to alleviate some boredom. I Think they are too small! I use egg sinkers on my main line just above the leader swivel and given the size of these lil guys I think the egg sinkers will slide right over them!

I was in a hurry...didnt think and now I have to make another trip!
:(:(

Hey Don!

Yea, I thought about that...but I often fish with 8-9 guys at a time in the Canyon and we all rig the same way (egg sinker on the main line). I'd hate for one of the guys to tie up a rig only to have the sinker hit the deck once tied...BAM! Although it would make for a few good laughs.

Hey blue,

use small clear tri beads... any color will work fine but use the clear ones.. acts like a tripod for the egg... it will hold any size up to 16 ouces if you so feel the need to use something that heavy.. it will not allow it to come thru the sinker but allows it to run up and down and hold the knot below it so nothing can get disfigured or mangled!

hope that helps.

If you are referring to those mini-wind on swivels, I avoid them like the plague anyway.

The problem is that the hole is so narrow, and the swivel so flat, that it creates a very sharp bend in the knot. I've had em break off before.

Just use the larger ball bearing swivels, or tie directly to the mainline if you are really worried.

just curious...... how small are the swivels that an egg sinker could slide over them:rolleyes: or how big are the holes in your egg sinkers:rolleyes:

Canny, I just measured actually. The swivels are 3/16" in diameter at the widest point. Plenty big for egg sinkers under 8oz...but over 8oz (which seems to be the most used size) and I think they'll slip through. I wish I had one in the house so I could know for sure before I start tying a bunch of rigs!

I agree don't use the windon type of swivels. Use the Power Swivel spro ones. They are small enough to be used as wind ons and are very strong for their tiny size. I lost a giant with the windon ones. They cut the line that goes through them, it has a sharp edge like mentioned earlier.

can't get the picture of them to work for some reason.

Beads

I have the same swievels and they are small..

For bottom fishing here we use eggs 99% of the time. What we do is between the sinker and the swievel is just put any bead in there to, first protect your knot from the sinker rubbing against it and being they are so small it also prevent the egg from going over the sweivel.

Color doesn't matter just something between the 2.
