Yes I did

Funny Geb I was there before it was a developed place I went to Puerta Plata and I would go to the beach every morning and paid a guy in a little skiff to take me out. We would fish the inshore reefs and get Red snapper, Grouper and other assortments. I actual caught 2 miniatsis Groupers which back then I had in my saltwater tank. They were a lot bigger but it was wild to actually catch them. Bring some tackle because the guys have none except for the Coke can with a spark plug sinker :) I found the time of year I went the winds never let up and we had a typhoon for 4 days so never got off shore but be careful they may just take you on a boat ride if the fish are off season. Look into this before you go and know what is running. Don't tell the Capt; what is running ask him and if he gives you the right answer then consider him. But you could get all the action right on the local reefs. Meet a guy with even a ski boat and tell him you want to fish for the week. I think he met me every morning and I paid him like 200.00 for the week and he was happy:) Find a guy that knows where the reef is and be aware they look to pull money tricks down there!! I stayed in the Sand Castle inn and it was just built my wife got very sick eating Shell fish from the vendors on the sides of the road please be careful can ruin your fun :0 Good luck

I am from the Dominican Republic and i go at least twice a year. I've fished from Puerta Plata three times, Once was on a little skiff and the other two times on a charter boat. The charter guy charged us 3500 pesos for 7 hours of fishings. The boats were pretty good too, equipped with fighting chairs. I caught a few mahi-mahi's, kingfish, and one white marlin. These boats are located where the main port of the city is. Its about 4 or 5 charters there so you can nogotiate a nice price, Im gonna make a phone call and see if i can get you a number to a boat down there. Good Luck!

Togmaster

By the way togmaster, I may know why your wife got sick at the sand castle, I stayed there about 7 years ago and noticed that the beach water was dirty and stunk. The closed the resort because the town sewage was being released onto the beach of the sand castle. It was a beautiful resort, shame they had to close it. If you go there again, check out hacienda suites or sun village.
