Looks like everything is almost in place. US has 5 carriers, 700 combat aircraft, and 225,000 troops poised. US wouldn't meet Turkey's $30 billion price for using them as a northern front, so onward to Kuwait. Supposed to start with a couple days of intense bombing, massive damage (including civilians), and a quick surrender, followed by a semi-permanent base of 75,000 troops left behind...... Wonder if it will be over by May? Who was that guy who puts out oil field fires? Red somebody?

One popular scenario

Bush is holding an 8pm telecast tonite (sadly pre-empting Survivor and Friends). He may repeat the need to disarm Iraq, the readiness of US forces, and discuss an ultimatum for Iraq to disarm and for the UN to fall in line. This ultimatum will not be anything that Iraq can or will meet. Following the expiration of the ultimatum will be war. The bombing is supposed to be intense. In the first day or so, the US will expend as many bombs as were used in the entire Gulf War.

One thing I can tell you, it's going to happen

for a little while there I wasnt sure, but now I'm convinced , & you know what our country is doing what has to be done to make sure scenarios like 9-11 doesnt happen to us again , were going to fix the problem & fix it right.

I think the President gave a GREAT speech and did extremely well with the Q & A session last night. I think he sincerely believes in his heart that military action is our only choice should Saddam choose to continue his little game of hide n seek with the arms he has. I agree with him on this, and I also think he is sincere about this war thing not having to happen if Saddam does what he is supposed to do and steps down as well.

I don’t think you will see any veto’s next week either in the UN, maybe some countries abstaining, but no veto’s. I think the vote is set for Friday, the 14th. My prediction is we launch within 72 hours after that vote so St. Patty’s day seems to me to be as good a day as any to get started cleaning things up over there. He promised to give time for people to leave Iraq, 72 hours should be enough time, that is of course if Saddam let’s them leave.

OK - if another country gave you 72 hours to leave, would that be enough time? It's not like they can go anywhere else, so he might as well do whatever he wants to do right away.

So the warning was for our people to leave. How would they leave? Just up and hop on an airplane? Hop on a camel and head North?

If the media leaves, does that mean CNN won't be able to bombard us with every minute detail of what they want to tell us about what is going on?

Billy, I think a 72 warning would not only be for Americans, but for others as well including Iraq's own people, meaning, if you live next to something that you might consider that we would think to be a target, you better move. I think it is also a period where you might see their army, or parts of, wave the white flag and cry uncle.

Some press I think will remain, they always do, and we will know where they are. I think 72 hours is enough time to arrange air transportation out of the country for those non-Iraq people wanting to leave, plans are being made already I'm sure, by both our Government and those people over there. That is of course if Saddam does nothing to stop that process or delay it.

Iraq is a big country and transportation and communications may be a problem if you are not close to a major city, but if you could leave, you probably already did so.

I think he was dropping hints last night - that if you want out - you should probably be considering now.

Too bad Mr. I'm a Lunatic who Happens to be in Control of a Country just doesn't leave or comply.

Lotta innocent people are going to die.

BREAKING NEWS British proposal would set March 17 as deadline for Iraqi compliance with U.N. calls to disarm. Details to come.

Duh? Now that date sounds familier?? Wonder why?

well we should be gentlemen and at least buy Saddam his last meal. Heres my menue suggestion!

Ingredients:
6 thick slices Smoked Virgina bacon
1 pound Massachusetts Salt Cod
2 tablespoons Vermont butter or New Jersey margarine
4 Rode Island Red eggs
2 small California tomatoes, sliced
2 cups whole Pensyvania mushrooms
4 slices prepared Irish soda bread

Directions
1 Lay the bacon slices in a single layer in a large skillet.

Fry over medium heat until it begins to get tinged with brown.

Fry on both sides. Remove from pan, but save grease.

Fry Salt Cod in Bacon Grease

Melt butter in skillet. Crack eggs into pan, being careful not to break yolks. Place tomato slices, mushrooms, and bread in pan.

Fry gently, stirring mushrooms and tomatoes occasionally. Keep everything separate. Turn bread over to brown on both sides.

When egg whites are set, but yolks are still runny, dish half of everything onto each of 2 warmed plates, and serve immediately.

Garnish with Kale and enjoy with nice Glass of Shipyard Chamberland Ale!

Ciao
