Do it yourself sinkers

1122 Views 9 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  seaworm1
Hello everyone/anyone,

I am interested in making my own sinkers (2 - 10 oz)- cannonball and bank. I can find melting pots and molds. It's the material I can not find. Any suggestions of what to use and where to get it?

I would also be interested in discussing everything on this topic

There are a number of guys on e-bay selling clean lead in lots of 30-80 pounds.

Very dirty lead, takes lots of time to skim it pure enough to cast, plus you have to get the steel clips out of it.

i use to used wheel weights melt them crap floats to the top and you skim it off and i would put a wire hook thru hole in wheel weight dip it in pot and steel hook comes right out of the weight

Yeah, but you have to skim it off and wait. Then skim it off and wait, then skim it off and wait, then slim it off again. Neat trick for getting rid of the steel is to use a magnet. When the magnet gets too hot it won't work, but you can get a lot of steel out before it gets that hot.
