Going to be in Deerfield Beach FL, next week for 4 days with the wife & kids.

Probably won't have time for any full day fishing trips, so (bringing one surf rig only) I was wondering what kind (if any) fish I can target from the beach this time of year.

I know we are staying right next to the channel that splits Deerfield from Boca Raton.

I figure that there are probably baitfish here cosidering the jetty & tides/current changes etc. I will check at the local tackle shops when I get there, but was wondering if anyone has fished the beach in this general area.

Any help would be appreciated.

I was at the pier Saturday about 10am. Not much going on at the time. I know they've been catching bluefish, spanish mackerel, snook and jacks. I don't fish the piers because it's like being on a party boat in Sheepshead Bay, crowded and rude.
Anyway, Boca Inlet is where you want fish. The south side has parking. Snook, tarpon, and jacks may be around. I would be throwing Bombers or Yozuris on at least 15# test with a 60# leader. You may catch a small blue runner on one cast and 100# tarpon on the next. Jigs and spoons will work too.
I'm not sure about night access, but dark is the best time. During the day you may get skunked, but come back at night and you may find fish blowing up on bait at your feet. Outgoing tide is best.
Plugging here is the same as NY. While stripers are my favorite to fish for, they really don't compare to tarpon. Last year during the mullet run in Jupiter inlet I hooked 13 tarpon, landed none, and lost 9 Bomber long A's and many drag washers and rod guides. The best shore fishing I've ever experienced.
Giant jack crevelle are nearshore as well. You will have your hands full. This guy caught by boat, it took over 20 minutes with 30# tackle, chasing him down. From the jetty, they'll hurt you!
Good luck!

Thanks alot for that information. Sounds like fun. I will be on the south side of Boca Inlet...just a walk across the street... when th kids go to bed I'll be out there.

I'll pack up some of the artificials that you suggested.

Now I'm definitely looking forward to this.

P.S. Nice Jack in that photo
