I just bought a turkey fryer and plan on using it this Sunday. Any tips or advice? Is peanut oil really that much better to use than corn oil?

Thanks

Peanut oil has the highest burning temp.

Smoke point - he's not looking to burn anything.

Avoid the flash point.

Peanut Oil..........don't use anything else.......
........it's just not as good.

RULES:

#1.....TURKEY MUST BE COMPLETELY THAWED AND FREE OF WATER
#2.....Put thawed turkey in empty pot, fill with water till turkey is just covered, then mark the water level in pot. This will be the level of the oil. DO NOT FILL ABOVE MAXIMUM FILL LINE IN POT.

#3.....You MUST use the thermometer, keep temp at around 325*, you will need to keep an eye on it and adjust valve lower as temp rises........DO NOT OVER HEAT OIL
#4.....S L O W L Y lower turkey into hot oil.........S L O W L Y
#5.....3 minutes per lb, and try to keep the turkey at around 15 lbs....anything bigger will push the limits of the oil level...

#6.....EAT....................

Just did 2 today

We did cheat and use a liquid marinade injected into the birds

we did 1 with buffalo sauce and a spice rub

and the second with italian dressin both bird were tasty and juicy

3 minutes per pound was perfect

We used fresh turkey killed today in the poultry house

Big Bog Big mistake both birds were rubbery beyond belief eddible but rubberry

when we do it again I will use a bell and evans fresh bird

Oh yea we did potato wedges tossed in dry rub mix we used on the outside of the bird and fried till done very very good

Tony, next time you get a turkey fresh killed the same day, pack it in ice for a week so the muscle can break down and it will melt in your mouth,it's just like ageing beef or like deer hunters do when they hang there deer for a week or more.
