Anyone have any ideas as to where to buy or how to
inexpensively create a box to go under the bench seat of my
Dual console. I am now using 2 different old tackle boxes, and of
course ALWAYS grab the wrong one first! Max. size would be 32"
x 10" by 9" high, or 36 x10x7.. (An arrow case is close in size.)
Wood warps, and those 1/2" polymer sheets are 50 bucks at
Boatersworld, less any hardware, so making it may not be the
practical option either. I was going to use an old battery box with 4
Plano 3406s inside, but splashing fish and washdown made that
impractical.

James,
Two thoughts come to mind...first, I think I'd take a look at what Sears has to offer by way of those fiberglass tool boxes for contractors' pickup trucks...not positive about the dimensions but from what I recall offhand, there may be a couple that would fit...you might need to consider drilling a few drain holes in the bottom & you'd likely want to add some additional trays but Walmart stocks some plastic ones that should do fine...

second, I've seen some plastic tupperware-type boxes in kitchen supply stores that might work...dunno about 32" wide but I've seen some that look close to that...also, department stores sell these plastic boxes for clothing storage & you may be able to find the size you want, then use stack trays for your lures & other gear...you're right, the 1/2" polymer + hardware can add up real quick...what about building something out of marine plywood w/ ss hardware? (That would also get up there $$$ pretty quickly, I guess)...let us know what you end up doing...sounds like a problem others may have bumped into...

Thanks Jerry,
have tried the various stores as you suggested with no luck to date, (although a Christmas wrapping paper box at Kmart may be close !) I have on backorder an arrow case from Cabela's, but it may be a 1/2 inch too long- anyone know how to glue polypropolene back together? Guess I was just shocked at the cost of those polymer sheets. One company offered to do a custom box up of acrylic for about $85. and if anyone else out there is interested will find and/or forward their email. If I can reglue or bond or melt together the polypropolene arrow case (provided it is just too long, I think I am set. Art

You can weld poly fairly easily. You need some welding rod made of the same material you want to weld then a hot air welder ~$99.00 or any hot air gun that you can control the temp and funnel to a small 1/4" diameter jet. Heat the joint a little, touch the rod and when it is sticky start pushing the rod and moving the heat. email me at [email protected] for more detailed explanation and sources for tools etc.
