Hi everyone I am new to the freshwater scene and had a few questions. First off when I purchase a freshwater license does that allow me to keep trout or is there a specific stamp that allows this. In florida I know with snook a special stamp, other than your saltwater license is requried to posses these. Secondly where and when are some places on the island where crappie can be caught and what are some baits/lures they can be caught on. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

In addition to rac's excellent recommendations I have caught some larger crappies on small Rapala jerkbaits. You could try the HJ6 or HJ8. Not what you would normally use and many will shy away but you will take a few bigger ones if they are around.

crappie

My go to crappie rig is a 1/16 oz. chartreuse jig head w/ a yellow curly tail grub sweetened with a meal worm or wax worm. Suspend below a weighted float about 18-20 inches on 4 lb. test. Cast out and slowly pull it in at one foot intervals about every ten seconds. Just gently come tight if the bobber moves and you are in. I am 50 and still can't get enough of that bobber fishing. Works great with a bead head nymph for trout too. Good Times! CCC

Work very well " when the water is a little warmer" and the fish are more active. Right now the water is still a little on the cold side for them to work well. Best bet is a 1/16 oz jig with a yellow/chartruse 1 1/2 long mister twister fished under a weighted float. Depth depends upon water depth. Right now most of my crappies are being taken with my jig set between 5-5 1/2 ft deep.
