What you mean, I think, is it is impossible to go over every situation and figure out a crankbait to go along with it. A common response is "weather and conditions". The only way to find any lure to fit any situation is trial and error. Lots and lots of trial and error.
There are certain (almost) constants. Bright colors for dirty water, match the hatch etc etc....
