Has anyone heard how the crabbing is in Great South Bay this season? I was thinking about going tonight for a while.

Crabbing

a lot of places have been very quiet so far this year. I crabbed on the Hudson last weekend and had 34 Big crabs in a few hours (posted a report). The rain spoiled it this past weekend as i had a hard time landing 14, but they were all still very large and full

So I went to a canel in Babylon and uses traps with bunker for bait. I caught 5 on the incoming tide, 2 of which were good sized and the others were not giants, but big enough to eat. I did better that I expected!!

East Rockaway

We usually get a few drifting fluke and by august there skimming the top and agressively on the fluke baits. Not one this year. Also get a few in the throw net. None there either.

Trapman. I don't think I've ever seen a 10" point to point and would love to see a picture of one on the tape. That must be 2 lbs of crab. Awsome! I would only need about 3 of them.

i finally get a some nice ones last night. the preferred method (between traps and string) was chicken on a string. they didnt seem to want to have anything to do with the traps. not a bad day ended up with 9 nice ones which i brought home and steamed up with some Obrycki's crab seasoning. (if youve never had their crabs i would highly recomend checking them out)

Would you like to tell us where you caught them?

I am getting all of mine in the Hudson

and so far they are all averaging 8"-10" point to point, and 18"-21"
claw to claw. I have posted pictures in the reports section. Have been averaging anywhere from 20-35 per day.

OK

Next trip " just for you" (Lol) i will post in the reports section with a tape measure instead of a Bud bottle. Expect the report sometime next weekend (weather permitting). However, for now you can check out Page 22 in the Charters section of the Flounder thread. That should give you a pretty good idea of the size crabs that i am talking about.
