Asian Shore Crab
Hello Vinny.
I wrote several papers on the subject over the summer. It's the Asian Shore crab. It's invasion has now spread from Maine through New Jersey. It's here to stay and nobody seems to care. Many people don't realize that Green Crabs are also an invasive species. They are actually European Shore Crabs. Just like green crabs, the Japanese crabs have adapted to our environment and are taking over almost every rocky shore.
To make matters even worse, I have a crab in my tank that I collected in October that I was having trouble identifying because it was so young. Now I think it may be a Chinese Mitten Crab. This is another invasive species that has taken over most of the estuaries in San Francisco. I guess it's only a matter of time...
