Gotta Fly thanks for stepping up.

I am a beginner when it comes to lure making so I have more questions than answers. I will email you and we can get into the details. Some high level things we need to discuss.

1. Do we do other lures besides wooden plug(s)?

2. How many wooden plug designs would we do?

3. How many weeks should the class be and how many days a week. Assume each class is 1.5 hours.

4. Materials, do the students get a list or can you provide the materials and be reimbursed?

I hope that this will be

It would be nice if there were a few lathes there so that we could try first hand as we see and learn. The instructor could "supervise" and advise real time. If there aren't too many lathes, maybe those that have "portable? ones could at least bring their own. Also, as I originally suggested, maybe it would be advantageous for a lure part vendor to have a presence there so that attendees could make purchases on the spot for use both in the class and at home. It would be beneficial for the vendor to be there because he would make the immediate sale as well as develop future residual business. A fee could be charged to the vendor to help defray the costs of running the seminar. The same might be done with a wood stock supplier. Think about it.

I know there are others interested in this lure/plug making that might not read this part of the message board.
And...............on another site I'm sure we could gather those folks to make this happen.
Just need to spread the word a bit.

Hey Guys,

My resume goes as follows. I fish mostly with tackle i make or catch. I catch fish on a regular basis. I make my own rods, plugs, bucktails, rigs, weights and flies. When i had a boat i would make killie boxes, chum pots and other things i would need as i saw fit.

As for bringing in vendors, i have several places i purchase equipment from, which most of you all ready know probably. I will make a list to distribute at the class.

As for what lure you want to make that is up to you. As i said above just post what lures you would like to cover. Darters, poppers, swimmers, Pencils if there is something i missed im sure we can figure it out.

As for the legnth of the class , i have no idea, i never did it before. I was thinking instead of a class we can make a club.

As for equipment, your all on your own i do not own a bank(sorry guys). Lathe chisels can be exspensive. If the school supplies them great. Wood, paint, wire, hooks, you can find them all within a half hour drive or mail order.

I will make a list of recomended items before the class begins. BUT BEFORE I DO THAT I NEED TO KNOW WHAT YOU GUYS WANT TO MAKE. LET ME KNOW.

Locust Valley Draggin their feet

Gottafly, Thanks for volunteering. I will call LVHS on Monday and see if they are serious about this. If they bag out the club may be the way to go. Stay tuned. I will also find out how many Lathes they have. But from what you tell me the turning part is pretty quick anyway.

Looks like a wash

Jerry,

How are you, No one seems interested in the class. Would have been a fun workshop. No one has even put any specifics of what they want to cover. I asked for an itemized list of course topics of what people want to learn and no one replys. Anyway the fishing season is creaping up on us shortly and it will be time to use our winter creations. I have made a few things which i will post soon. If anyone is still interested send me a PM so i can get a tally on how many people want to attend.

Hi Jimmy,
Sorry to hear the response has been slow. Could be that everone's frozen solid & moving in slow motion...like we are up here in Mass. :)
Well...let's give it a while and see if anybody posts their interest. You're right about fishing season creeping up...won't be all that long till the Hudson starts flushing out the stripers...but, geez, everything's frozen up around here...the Quincy to Boston ferry had to bag it the last couple of trips because the harbor's iced right in...I hear the pike action is real good right now on the Charles River, big, saw-toothed fish...hungry ones at that...might give that place a look if it stays cold for a few more days.
Hope some more folks post an interest on the plug making get-together.
Stay warm,
Jerry

Oh well.....

another scathingly brilliant idea down the tubes... :(. But don't you whiners out there start belly aching about how you wish you could make some of the beautiful pieces that you see posted here if you only knew how, because you could have.

Oh, and by the way, what ever happened to....

I think it's something we could do, but there's a number of things to be considered. Give me until Tuesday or Wednesday of next week to come up with something.

Nightcaster,

I said i would teach the class. I was looking for a list of items that you want to make so i can prepare material for the class. At this time no one has submitted anything. I make alot of my own gear as listed in the posts above.

We were all ready getting the info on the wood shop and the schools time and dates. At this point with out the assistance of george. I dont know what else we would need since we had a class room.

What we need is a list of attendees.

George, i will help out in regard to this class. If you would like to email me some info which may help feel free.

Update-Good News

Class will be $ 75.00 + materials. Gotta fly the first day of the class will be an intro. The classes run 12 hours. That can be 12 1 hour classes or 8 1.5 hour classes. We have to figure out how many lures do we make. It seems like painting is the most time consuming. So maybe we make a bottle plug and a metal lip simultaneously. We have to get in touch with the school to see how many lathes they have.

Class Canceld

Sorry Guys the class is canceld. The school gave us the impression they had lathes in their woodshop. Since I was basically showing all interested how to work a lathe, this makes the class a little difficult. So maybe we can all meet in a location if someone wants to plan that . Let me know.

Jim

Sorry
