I am not at all experianced in rod repair/restoration, so don't quote me on this. I have only done this to a couple of old Penn reels which were Green and actually pitted, and after I was done they looked and worked great. Scothbrite pads, rub off all the green, and it will look like new. I don't have any yet, but a rust protecteant, such as Boeshield T9 r Corrosion X will prevent any future rust (I'm told).

Like to hear what is supposed to be done though.

Hi,

Is the greenish corrosion on the chrome reel seat and chrome guides?

In honesty I have not had much success totally removing that green stuff.

I have tried leaving the guides submerged in Coco Cola, tried baking soda, tried very fine trymite paper, isopropyl alcohol, denatured alcohol, wire wool and lots of other things. I find it easier to replace the reel seat and guides. If a 2 piece rod the reel seat is very easy to replace.

Hey guys, we need some help here. Has anyone found a proven solution to removing this green corrosion?????

Thanks in advance,

Capt Neil

bobbym, sorry, can't help you out here, but, to help prevent it, I use a little Vasoline under the reel and on the reel seat too. Also, always wash rods and reels with a gentle soap and plenty of fresh water when the day is finished. Lock your drags up tight when washing and loosen up when finished until next time.

Just my $.02

Capt,
You can get flitz in Boaters World. The last can I bought was from the one on old country road in westbury. As surfpro mentioned, most marine shops should have it. It's a silver tube/can w/ blue writing. I origianlly used it to clean bow rails and fighting chair posts, but then tried it on my surf sticks (old style metal ring guides) and it worked great. May have to try semichrome since I never used it!
