Does Color matter?

Does the color of the kayak matter when fishing? I know atleast with lures it matters. I want to get one in a color that will allow me to be visible to boats, so they do not kill me, but i do not want to spook fish who might feel that the 12'6" yellow bananna floating along the surface is a potential threat. What have been your esperiences in this area?

If any color spooks fish, it would be a dark one. Fish learn to run from shadows, which may be caused by diving birds, or other predators.

If you don't believe this, you have never seen a school scatter at the shadow of an airplane, 10,000 feet above.

My kayak is a 12'6" yellow bananna, it has never spooked fish that I am aware of. I think yellow and orange are the most visible, safest colors, and I've never seen either spook fish!

Flounder where have you been? I haven't read a post by you in a few months. I know we fish around the same areas e-mail me and we can hook up some time soon.

Joey I got the Yum Yum Yellow cause maybe 1 of those cigar boats speeding in the L.I. Sound might see me before running me over. My wife gets a big laugh out of it. She says I look like I'm floating on a chiquita banana. And she has the pictures to prove it.

When a fish looks up they see light. So the wisdom is lighter colors are more like what fish see. So White would probably be the best color. I've fished from a lot of yaks and personally I don't think that it matters much. Get the color you like or the one that's available.

kayak color

in my opinion, color would not be too important an option unless you're using a black yak at night. now that's a spooky sight to a fish. for safety reasons, however, if you favor a green or brown kayak, then accentuate your visibility with a bright pfd (yellow, orange, white)

A secret among very good offshore fishermen targeting tuna and shark is to paint a school of squid on the bottom of their boat using a stensil.

Just a thought, but what about painting a school of peanut bunker on the bottom of a yellow yak? When the fish look up, they'll see dinner!

Today's fishing

Had a bunch of guys to glenn island and went out to hunt down some stripers, I would have invited more but there are some problems with bringing people into the park, in fact we got into some trouble with the county police after they saw we sort off sneaked in. Everybody had fish and I found a new spot that we took about 30 fish out off. It seems that the little wind really spiced up the fishing and really creates some nice rips. The man of the day was Joev who brought his tube-and-worm set up and had fish to 36 inches and had 2 break him off in the rocks that were bigger. Nice day on water with some great people.
