Putting a new color fishfinder on the boat this year, and my question is which one??? I have looked and I'm down to 3 the Furuno FCV-582L, JRC FF50, or the Si-Tex CVS-832? Let me know if anyone has one of these units or has had 1, and how they liked it, or what they didn't like about it. Thanks in advance.

I have two color fish finders on boat, a furuno CRT 582 and I put in a JRC FF50 last summer with a 1kw high performance transducer and I am completely happy with it. I will put the JRC up against any other LCD fishfinder on the market. Remember JRC use to make all the internal components for raytheon and now they are on there owm

I have the Furuno 582L. It's a really nice unit and performs really well. It is a little more dificult to use than units I've previously owned. Color is really a good choice. I've had bad luck with Lowrance regarding reliabilty.

Capt Mike,
It's really not that hard to use. I had a Zercom Liquid Paper unit before. This unit had knobs and was very easy to use (nice BW unit). The Furuno is a powerful unit, but some of the more advanced features require you to break out the manual. The knobs are nice because it makes things easy to change. When you're in the manual mode, it just took a little fiddling to get used to the unit. In the auto mode, alot of adjustments are deactivated. The Fyruno marks fish really well. Color helps out alot. The good thing about color is that you can crank up the sensitivity and still see the fish from the noise. It's harder to see with B&W.
