Hi,

Thru some jigging rods in the boat just in case. Intentions was to go for a little ride to test boat and new ss prop. All well and off I went to the inshore cod grounds. 2-3 at a time but small scrod. Picked thru and culled a bunch for a nice catch of markets. All on jigs and tubes.

Wait a few more weeks and the sow cod will be moving inshore. Can't wait but a nice ice breaker today. Water temp in harbor 33 degs. Outside 35 degs (didn't need ice in the cooler) Air temp in the 40s with 1-3' seas.

chowda!

What area?

If all goes well it'll be a couple weeks and then a test run, then off to the salt h20. Be as specific or general as you want, what area were you fishing? My plan is to first start on some small humps 5-10 miles from newburyport & head further east from there if neccesary & if the weather allows.

leakyrivot,

This one looks fishy (below) and around 10 miles from Newburyport. The further you go the better your chances. The inshore waters are cold now. The best is Jefferies ledge but that's way out of the range you want to travel. Start with a minimum depth of 160' and look for fishy structure on the map.

Good Luck

Thanks for another good tip. That does look like a nice bump, the way I'm drawing it's about 10 miles - within range in decent weather.

May as well give it a shot along the way, but what do you think of the quick drop along 070 40.000' W.. within 1/4 mile I see 151-210 ft .. is any of that type structure ever promising?

I know you said 160 ft, but would it be worth sticking myself on this little 99ft inshore bump (it's been staring at me)?

It's on the way but on the shallow side. The water just south "rky" is a little deeper and may hold a keeper. It's going to take a little exploring on your part to find a inshore spot.
I would stick to 160 or deeper structure.

Play it safe this time of the year. Not too many boats out there.
