I have been bringing a combination of different surge tubes in different colors along with twister tails and shrimp teasers. I have been using power bait squids rigged on a 6/0 hook with great success as well. I have had a lot of pollock hit the squid on the way to bottom. I really do not think the type of teaser matters but having a good color selection to choose from based on what color is working really helps put a few extra's in the box. HB

Fantastic flies Kil, I just got my shipment of Gamakatsu open eye siwash and am looking forward to spacing out at the vise and dreaming of steakers. I often let my creative juices flow BUT, I have taken a great deal of ribbing from the boys. Although I will continue to utilize flashabou, and eyes, I have come to the realization that at 200 - 300 feet down, it doesn't make much of a difference. I have even seen times when a simple Feeney fly will outfish even the most intricately tied fly. Go figure. It won't stop me, as I love to tie flies, but I will be sure to tie some simple sparse ones just to be on the safe side.

Just wondering why the the hooks have open eyes

I use open eyes so I can attache a swivel if I want to. Also are handy in changing out hooks on jigs. Haven 't had one fail yet. Prefer the ss open eye siwash 6/0 to 9/0 for max. penetration. Have found larger is better when attached to a jig.

Cod have a tendency to roll on the way up, especially BIG cod. A good swivel on the fly and on both ends of the jig can prevent the fish from getting leverage and pulling the hook out.As we all know, there are no guarantees.
