does anyone know where I can pick up up a Shakespeare bwb 1120, Its an 8ft rod Heavy Action rod that EC recommended for 50/60 lb mono for cod, And what a fair price would be? I have been surfing the net with no luck, I want to pick up a cod outfit without spending an arm and leg. I have a seeker 670 with a 338 newll with 40lb, But the Helen H recomends 50 lb test at least
Since I only do 1 or 2 trips a year I don;t want spend a fortune on a rod

Thanks

Hi,

Hope the boyz had a great Holiday Season. Say hello to them for me.

The catalog says the Seeker 670 is rated for 20-50 lb test.

I have not held the blank. If you have used it b4 and felt it would bring in the fish by all means keep using it.

I have fished with 50# mono on my Newell 338. I do not lock my drag up.

I think you can use the equipment you have. Just respool with 50#.

If anyone feels different about this please post so.

Offshore Angler catalog has the Ugly Stik rod you're looking for. The item # 35-133-677-00 and the price is $64.99. Telephone # is 1-800-463-3746. I purchased one from them several years ago, it's a good, reasonably priced party boat codfish rod that will easily handle up to 16 oz. sinkers or jigs.

Hi,

Sounds like real nice setups the boyz now have. Gotta break them in!!!

Was at J&H, Oakdale NY, 631-244-0600, this AM. They have the Shakespeare BWB1120 in stock for $69.99

See you at the Winter Bash.

The Seeker 670 and BWB 1120 are two totally different action blanks. Big difference in fact!

Try you local tackle shop like Capt. Neil mentioned. I have the above rods, and you are always welcome to drop by, and give a pull on them with the 338 or whatever size reel you want to try on them.

If you do not find what you are looking for locally, wait for the Suffren show, or one, of the tackle shows in New Jersey this winter.....

Two friends and I have been using the BWB 1120 for the last 10 years on the 1-day, 2-day George's Bank trips, and the Wreck Specials with the Frances Fleet. Each of us always takes 2 of these rods, rigged and ready to go, just in case. For the price, they've provided some excellent fishing. I did replace one a few years ago...after 3 or 4 years moderate use, the entire reel seat came lose and rotated about 40 degrees off-center, while reeling in fish. I use Shimano TLD20 and TLD15 reels with 35 or 40 lb. Versitex Battle Line polyethylene braided line. I recall buying a BWB 1120 a couple of years ago in Sports Authority for around $65. Before that, I bought one at Davis Sports Shop on route 17 north, up near Sloatsburg, NY. Any good sized saltwater tackle store, that carries Ugly Stik rods, should have the BWB 1120 for $65 to $70. Good luck, hope you put it to good use.
