A friend of mine is planning a Helen H. cod trip next month. I told him that I think the bag regs for cod in Mass. is 5 per day. Am I right or does it ease up in the spring? And is the size limit 21"? Thanks for any info that you can provide regarding this matter. :)

5 fish a day

I believe the 5 fish, minimum 23 inches, reg's are for Gulf of Maine EEZ (federal area) cod. The state waters have different regs (stellwagen is well out of state waters). The one thing I'm questioning though is stellwagen isn't in the GOM, as far as I know, but it is some other protected zone. Can anyone out there elaborate?

Stellwagen if i remember correctly falls under the same restrictions as Jefferies and other GOM areas, which would be either the 5 fish during the winter, then 10 fish during the rest of the year. Georges, Great South Channel and Nantucket still have no restricitions on the bag limits.

If you want to see the best site on the net that talks about codfish restrictions, pending and current legislation, areas with coordinates, and other things pertaining to codfish, goto:
