Would the Penn 320 and 330GT's or the lever drag versions be a sufficient cod reel, or is it to light duty?

What would guys recommend as an inexpensive but capable set up?

A lot of the cod rods seem to be 8', why is that? Wouldn't a 6' be more managable?

The 8 foot rods are designed for jig fishing of of a party boat (i.e. relatively high off the water) I would just go with the old reliable penn 113H.

good cod reel

a great setup is a good old fashon penn like the guy above me is saying.
i prefer a jigmaster with an after market power handle (15$ extra) spooled 1/4th mono backing and then the rest 65lb power pro. u can put 300 yrds of power pro on it. its good for all your needs. i use mine tile fishing in the summer also.
