I live in the Huntington area and am looking for a good cod trip.

I've been out on the viking out of montaulk but its a 2 hr trip to get there and another 2 hrs back after being on the water all day.

I'm looking for somthing out of Captree, Freeport or Moriches.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Baccala!

Good morning-

Captree- You have Captree Princess sailing weekends. Tradewinds is making some trips also, seems that CaptPaul is watching the weather & then announcing the trips on this site. Pay attention to the Premium Sponsor and Partyboat Fishing forums.

Pt. Lookout- Capt Al, sails everyday (weather permitting, of course
)

Moriches- Seems the Rosie is doing some cod trips this year, too. I think he's got trips scheduled this upcoming Fri, Sat, & Sun. Again, watch the boards, as I dont think he has a set scheduel either.

I believe the Superhawk and several boats from Sheapshead Bay in Brooklyn also do Blackfish/Cod trips. (Marilyn Jean and Capt Dave).

I live in the town of Huntington as well and know it's a long trek to Montauk, but it really is worth it. The average catch out there is 3 or 4 times what it is out of some of the south shore boats.

If you want cod, you have to go where the fish are. If you want to drop your line in the water and hope to catch cod, try your local bay. I live in the bronx, 71 years old and find driving 3-5 hours difficult but when I want cod I head to Mass. NH and points northeast to get them. When they show in the east river, driving will be over, until then the long drives are necessary. Pt. Judith was very productive this past fall, relativelyk speaking.
