My friend caught a 20 pound Cobia on an eel in the flats just North of Wansers. I fished here 45 years and never seen a Cobia. Anyone ever hear of Cobias in the Great South Bay?

Not in GSB but I have seen one caught by a friend in Shinne**** and I ahve heard of others from time to time around our area.

Seems like every year one to four of them are caught in Narragansett bay or along the south shore of RI.

Dozens caught almost every year outside JI and FI inlets. Although not as common inside the bay, they are caught. One fellow on my canal caught one at the Copiague Hole last year.

We weighed this 39 pound Cobia, caught south of Jones on 8-13.

I went 2 Miami once and caught a cobia. That is something.
I wish someday we can catch them as we catch stripers.
It was delicious....

that's not really very far from Zach's bay where they had that baby thresher earlier this year. Great catch.

My buddy had one years back off Tobay on live killies.

I had a about a 8 pounder off of Amityville a few years ago. Same deal caught while flukein in the East-West Channel. If I remember right it took a live Killie

Earlier this summer the Helen H in Mass reported catchin one on a private charter this summer. Now that is some trip for that fish!

There was an 18 lber taken off East Haven CT.last thursday while porgy fishing . The angler that landed it didnt know what it was ,took it to a bait store to confirm it .Turns out that the fish is going to be a state record.The luck of the bite.
