started to use an old green Penn 711 I think it is...had it cleaned up, new line, etc.....problem is as I cast it seems like you have to push in a lever/button in order to close the bail and it seems to take a while to do so....just doesn't seem right to me....especially if I'm cast/retrieving tins...anyone familiar with what I am talking about...any suggestions/explanations would be appreciated...

I'm surprised no one has answered this. The 711 is the left hand version of the 710. it is a standard spinning reel, the bail is closed by cranking the handle. it can be stiffer than some newer reels, but it should work. clean and lube everything, if it still doesn't work look at the "bail release arm". if that doesn't work convert to bailless.
