I was wondering if anyone could tell me where the closes party boat is to Manhattan.

I have been doing some research and have found several in the Sheepshead Bay area which seems somewhat close (although that's a long subway ride) but I was curious if there were any that are not advertised here that I am missing?

I live on the UWS of Manhattan and need to find one that is easily accessible from public transportation.

Thanks!

I think Sheepshead bay is the closest to you....there's the Atlantis Princess in Staten Island, not sure how close mass transit would drop you off to their dock though. A while ago, maybe a long while ago ( I forget ) there was the Palace that used to pick up passengers somewhere downtown after leaving from Hoboken, and there used to be a boat from Flushing as well, somewhere around the World's Fair Marina. Other than that, City Island may be the next closest venue for you...

As mark said, Sheepshead Bay is probably the eaist to get to. City Island may be doable depending on how ahrd it is to get to the 6 train. You can take that train to Pelham Bay and then there is a bus you can catch which will take you to City Island. The fist stop on the Island is very close to the Island Current and the RipTide and the second stop is right in front of the other boats which dock behind Jack's B&T.

live in the murray hill area and I only fish SHB. a number of boats are still there, and they target a wide variety of fish. it is a long ride and the trains run infrequently in the early morning hours. the station is within walking distance of the main piers. not having a car, I think that's a feasible place to get a full day of fishing in.

I was also going to mention City Island, but don't forget that the Flamingo is accessible in Brroklyn, although it's not with the rest of the Sheepshead fleet-it's over off Knapp Street. Capt Bob of the Flamingo will put you on fish when they are there and there will undoubdetly be some great jigging for bass before the Dec 15th close on the Flamingo.

Gold Hammered diamond jigs in 4 and 6oz will do the trick and reall slow off the bottom...

Party Boats

You could take the Fast Ferry SeaStreak to Atlantic Highlands in NJ and they have several party boats there They pick up on Pier 11 at Wall Street or on East 35th street The ferry drops you off right at the party boats Round trip is about $45

Is the party boat PIONEER from north Jersey? I see that boat all the time and I know he is not from SHB. Judging from the spots he fluke fishes at, he is a sharp captain.

I would look into that boat if i were you. It's not one of those giant 100 fare boats that are way too crowded.

train to the boat

probably shb is best as others have said.
however, be careful. the flamingo is a 30 min walk from the train. the sh boats are not a "leisuely 5 min walk". catching a boat in the am is never a leisurely anthing if you first must rely on the timely mta subway system.

you could get a car svc from the shb station to the flamingo.

fishing these boats i know a lot of people who do this. their complaints are that if you miss the 4 am from nyc your done for. so many of them take the 2 am etc this make it a 20+ hr adventure from early am to eveing. a lot for boat ride.

it's not 20 hours. I've taken the Q for years, the only time it gets hairy is if they replace parts of the line with bus service (due to station maintenance). exceptions yes, annoying yes, but for me in the murray hill area, it's 1:15 from my door to the boat.

there's a Q that leaves union square at 5:20-5:35, if you catch that one, you will be on the boat by 6:15. if you miss that one you will still be on the boat by 7, as they run every 20-25 min or so. it is a brisk 8 minute walk from the station to the piers (not including the flamingo).

what jason said! the walk is about 10 minutes (jason walks fast) shorter if you take the exit at the head of the train. jason and i take this route every week, never missed the boat once, as long as you know what to expect, its fine.

jeez..why are people upset about the leisurly 5 minute walk..its really a nice stroll from the voorhies ave exit of the train to get to the boats....but ..if you want theres another option...if you get off the train at the main side,,,sheepshead bay road exit of the train ..you can cross the street and make a right turn...walk a 1/2 block then when you pass the wamu bank make a left and wait at that bus stop for the b4 bus...this bus will take you to the corner of emmons and sheepshead bay road...from ther you cross emmons ave ,turn left and the boats are right there....i really dont think the bus is needed because the boats are really close to the train station....i like to walk a little in the mornings and i really think that its a 5 TO 7 MINUTE WALK......time it and tell me if i am wrong.....i live in the area for 30 years. and i have worked for the mta..new york city transit for 15 years.....i have a pretty good idea of where the fleet is located.....but if the flamingo is the boat of choice you can exit the sheepshead bay train station at the main ,,sheepshead bay road exit..cross the street and walk 1 block to ave z..turn right and you will be under the train track overpass...wait there for the b4 bus toward knapp street..ask the driver to let you know when you are at the movie theater...exit the bus...walk down the block toward the water and you will find the flamingo.......good luck and enjoy your trip

it's probably a legit 5-7 minutes from the station to the closest point on the water, and another 3-5 minutes to the actual boat, depending on which one you take. I drag a medium sized rolling cooler, and walk fast as mentioned earlier. if you have a FULL size cooler (and I'm not sure exactly what you plan to fill that up with, unless you be bluefishin, lol), then you can hail a taxi or wait for the bus. or get one of those big coolers with wheels.

bottom line is if you want to escape the city for PB fishin, and are willing to wake up in the morning, it's easily do-able.

Scott,
I don't know about you but when I go fishing there is a lot of stuff to carry. Rods, tackle, food and drink. Hopefully fish back from the boat. I also have a bad back and can't carry much too far. Now I drive so it's not my problem, but I was asking for thoses that may need the ride.

PS when I lived in Queens I used to carry all that with me to SHB. I needed the bus. It was a 2 bus and 2 train trip.

medium sized rolling cooler for ice, beer, grundens. plenty of room for the fish you're likely to catch here, unless you're going for blues or stripers and want to keep them whole.

1 (ONE) 2-piece rod/reel setup

backpack for rigs, jackets

that's it. you can walk all day and fish all day if you pack light. if you're going TUNA fishing, then rent a car.
