If it is hard clams that you want for bait purposes buy biggest clams you can get. In market terminology they are called chowders. They are significantly cheaper than the samller sizes (little necks and such) that are sold to clam bars and restaurants. FWIW when I dug clams in the 1970's a bushel of chowders got us $2 OR $3 dollars a bushel while a bushel (technically called a count of 500 clams) of little necks got us $20-$25.

You'll get more bait with less work out of a bushel of chowders than you would with a bushel of necks.

baywatch , Crack the cap on the tall neck Bud watch the foam run up the neck and run out the top . Suck down a Little Neck grab the bottle of Bud take a long chug of bear . Watch more foam come out run down your shirt . Leave the extra sauce hanging from the corner of your mouth , then let out a long burp . It don't get any better then that .

Clamming

Lets go NOW!!!

Sometimes during the summer I take a bunch of us on low tide and hit the sandy flats by me.

When where done it reminds me of that guy on Forest Gump with the shrimp made a 1000 different ways.

Great time though.

Have to get EC in the water for that. Could you imagine that one~~~~~:)

just a question what type of clams are they that you see squirting water in the air at low tide in the mud and are they used for stripers. years ago i would collect them for blackfish, thread the hook onto the hose and use the sinker to crack the shell, had pretty good resulst with tog on them

well all those reply's are good but most of those places want to sell bulk and the place dockces sea clam is relay not aloud to sell clams for bait becase they cathc them for food and can get in trouble if ever cought. but then again if u want to deal with clarence then u can just go a head but they are going to charge just as much as u would if u bought from a bait store. if i was u and needed a bushell of clams on a regular bases talk to joe gullo over at westend bait & tackle. he gets clams all the time in the shell fresh fresh salted

good luck fluke killer
