Any one use Soft Shell (p-ss)clams for bait in the sound?If so for what fish?How to keep on the hook?Par boil or what?Also I am wondering if you can dig them in the town of Huntington at the present time??

Seen guys use tiny ones for black fish. I dont see why a bass or blue wouldnt take one either. I know in smithtown there all over the place. When your down at the beach pop one on and toss it out. If there too soft get a few salt them up and try them next time.

Right on Mike

They make excellent spring Blackfish Bait. Landed my largest Blackfish to date on one 15.7 (taken from shore). Used to run the hook thru the neck and lightly crack the shell to get the juices flowing. The necks have also worked for me as a flounder baits. Just remove the necks, skin them, and slice them down the center. You get 2 baits per neck this way (perfect flounder size).

Most of smithtown bay in huntinton town is uncertified for claming too bad we cant even use them for bait and its not worth getting caught taking them.
