Does anyone know if you have to have a special permit to clam?

I ask because I used to go down to the Ponquogue Bridge with the family and after a day of fishing, and low tide hit we'd head down to the shallows and start to dig up razors and steamers....

I am thinking about hittin' the backside of Mt. Sinai harbor during low tide, but worried about getting in trouble.....

Anyone have any idea if there is a needed shellfish permit? Oh yeah, this will be for myself and family, no selling of catch.

Town of Brookhaven Shellfish Law

In the town of Brookhaven, residents may harvest up to one half bushel or 100 clams per day without a permit as long as the clams are for your own personal consumption. For more info, contact the Town Clerk's office.
