Hello,
There are many ways to chunking!
The type of rigs to use depends on the location and structure you fish. What do I mean by that? It?s simple? if you are planning to chunk an area where there is strong current ? you are better off sand spiking and using a fishfinder rig! Why? It keeps your offering stationed to the bottom and allows the fish to take your bait with minimal resistance.

In the event you are fishing calm waters with minimal water flow, you should try a weightless (no sinker) tactics. Simply tie a hook with a chunk and you are ready to go. However, this method is best to hold on to the rod until you feel the slighter pick up.

Other methods include free-chunking. This is basically allowing the current to take your offering to cover more grounds. You simply peel the line off your reel until you feel the fish pick up.

Other important things to know: Remember to change your bait regularly because the current will wash the juices/scent off the chunks.
In addition, It also helps to chum the area periodically by tossing small chunks around your spot. This way it will attract fish to your slick and keep them interested!

These are just a few important things you should know about chunking.

Great1,
If that?s the case, you are probably fishing a beachfront with the current going either left or right. Unfortunately the drifting (peel of line) method does not work on those conditions.
This method works best if you are fishing a point with a rip (moving current). ;)

You are better off fishing with a fish finder rig with a pyramid sinker!

Folks,
There are many ways to chunk and it?s just a matter of preference. Some people like it with a three-way swivel, some like it with a dropper and some simply likes the fishfinder rig. To be perfectly honest with you, most rigs will work when the bass sniffs down on your offering.

However, what happens when a weary old finicky cow decides to play with your bait? I tell you what?. If that old lady decides to play? she will pick up your bait, spit it out, drag your offering and pull?. If there is any resistance, she will drop it and look for an easier meal! I?ve seeing it many time!!!

Now, I know the fish-finder rig will cut your distance but the truth of the matter is? it is the best preventive rig to fool that dream fish. Why? Because the fish-finder rig will give the necessary slack when the she decides to play with your offering.

Also, I strongly recommend a conventional outfit for chunking. It?s better for distance as well as power to horse that elusive trophy!

To me, the spinning outfit simply don?t cut it!
How many people out there agree -or- disagree with this theory? I am open for a healthy debate. :)

That's a legitimate question!
I didn't say you can't, all I am saying is?if you are planning to "chunk", your odds of horsing the fish is greater with a conventional outfit. The spinning outfit does not have the appropriate leverage nor the power! The spinning outfit will stress out that trophy and you will not have the option for a healthy release.

FYI: I know Mark and he caught his trophy with a plug? not chunking. ;)
