personally i have only used the jointed plug and one of the poppers. the poppers work and i have caught schoolies and small blues.

the hooks were way to small so you would have to change them. but i think its better to spend under 10bucks for a small popper thats gunna get hammered by blues then spend 15-20 on a super strike, yo-suri, or another custom wood plug.

i think nothing matches a ss lilneck but i cant afford to buy a whole bunch of them cuz they go for 14-15 dollars a piece. then one breaks off and it really hurts to lose a lure like that. not to mention my dad gets pissed when i spend alot on plugs.

one day i got four plugs and spent over 60 w/ tax. i know fishing isnt exactly cheap but i am willing to but cheaper plugs to save money. that way when u loose one its not as bad.

as for the quality of cheaper plugs, change the hooks and let the fish decide if they work or look good. :):) the finnish may come off and they may get beat up but i have caught plenty of fish on plugs were there is no paint left atall.

as for werre i got them, i picked mine up at the suffolk sportsmen in smithtown

i also hear cow killer lures are good cheap plugs. never tried them but they look good enough to try. i dont know about you but i would rather drop 10bucks on an okay plug that catches than buy one of those pretty rm smiths or some other pretty lure on ebay going for over 30bucks.

also u cant go wrong with bombers, red fins, swimm shads, and ucktails if you want to save money.

those so called rhode island lures are made in china. don't confuse them as "rhode island poppers" which are an actual high quality custom plug out of rhode island.

i understand you are just trying to help out and save a buck at the same time. but you definitely get what you pay for.

Go swim 1 of those Darters & then come back & tell me you don't get what you pay for with lures, then go swim an RM smith, then you'll get the picture.
I go by past experience with everything,I have a freind who is cheap & buys all that crap,& the 1's that are supposed to swim, swam like crap.Bluefish will eat anything.Besides,Your not supposed to loose em.If your loosing stuff,I suggest you beef up your line & leader a bit.

actually i do own sevral rm smiths. and do you wat there going for on ebay right now? enough to buy 3-4 decent lures. also to buy one online is pure luck because as soon as they go on sale, they are gone in less than an hour. if a plug works i fish it. i dont get to involved in color anyway. i mainly fish solid color lures or lures with a dark top and a white bottom. who gives if i looks appealing to you. if i catch with a lure i fish it. if you like fishing with fancy plugs thats fine. also one of the best pecil poppers out the is the cotton cordil. yes customs will probably cast bestter, and dance better buut i catch plenty of fish on them even though they are crappy lures in quality.

everyone here most likely has a cotton in there bag. its a known fact they are fish catchers. i dont find RMs that hard to come buy if you know were to look.now if u wanna talk about lures going for money just look up the G2's on ebay $147.

I don't own nor have I fished any of the Rm Smiths or Beachmasters. I will probably not either. I just can not justify the price and have a chopper come and tear my leader to shreds. There goes 50-60 + dollars into the drink. JNSKI and Tattoo and the like are as much as I will spend on spend on something I occasionally throw really really far out never to be seen again.

Honestly though, do these pieces of wood catch fish any better than other pieces of wood? If you are in the right place in the right conditions and they want a yellow darter does the brand really matter? As long as it is not swimming like a brick.

I would like to hear some honest and INFORMED opinions on this subject. Please save your one line trash talking for the lounge or chat.

I must make this clear, this post is not meant to offend anyone who prefers theses lures over others nor is it meant to trash any of these high end plug builders. Having never used them I have nothing to base any opinion on and have only heard others speak highly of them.

frankie 50-60dollars? i get mine from 20-23. but to answer your question do they catch more most of the time yes they will. they have a much better swimming action and the paint jobs are also alot better. those rhodeisland lures paint starts chipping after a few times and i am still yet to catch a fish. id use a storm popper and pretty much kil the bass id try that lure and get nothing. kinda pissed me off how i spent about $11 and it doesnt even catch.

also come fish tonight.

Every lure is a nitch lure. They will all kill fish in the perfect conditions. A bucktail is a versatile lure but you have to bring a bunch of different sizes to fish a tide. Not all darters are built the same, if the fish are committing suicide sure they will take everything but sometimes they want a plug at a certain depth, so speaking dartahhhsss a big Gibbs or BM might get to the right zone while a smaller plug might not have the correct dig. A bigger front hook might even make the difference. There are no rules.

i dont buy that many expensive lures. i catch plenty of fish of cheap lures like bombers and less well know plug builders, and other plastic lures. as long as the hook hangers are strong, i just add the triple split rings and VMC hooks and let the fish decide the quality of the lure. yess if it look dead in the water i wont fish it, but if i catch i will use it. i think darters and pencils are harder for builders to make but even then gibbs and super strike are good.

yes rm smiths are great, but try and take say a gibbs or super strike lure and throw it against an rmsmtih. ohhhhhh aaahhhhhhhhh pretty colors and paint jobs. go throw them against a 15dollar solid colored plug or a bomber and i doubt you'll stop catching fish. will the bass stop hitting the plugs cause the scales aren't painted on it?

and i suppose that storm popper you picked out of a bargin bin at sports attority for 7bucks is a quality lure. it probably out fished it cause it has rattles and makes more noise.

again i fish wat works for me, no matter the price, just beef up the hardware and fish it the right way at the right time and any lure with the right presentation will catch.

also a quote from an old topic
tiderunner70r.m. smith does have some pretty amazing colors. but i prefer jnski's over his due to the fact they are produced they are produced by an avid surfcaster who happens to live and fish right here in long island. not only are the jnski plugs beautiful they have accounted for hundreds of fish for me. i know r.m. smith plugs are beautiful. but aren't they produced somewhere in pennsylvania??? one problem with some of these new custom plug builders is that they make there plugs so dam pretty your almost afraid to fish them and lose them. wrote:
