I was looking to build a couple of rods for small boat use in Raritan bay. I was thinking a lighter one for fluke, and a heavier one for stripers. I was interested in the cheap fiberglass blanks in Jann's netcraft catalog, but I'm not sure what would work for these methods. I'll go for better quality blanks once I'm confident in my abilities. I just want to make sure that I don't end up with either a pool cue, or a noodle, but somewhere in between. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi, welcome to rod making. Once you get started it can become hazardous to anything else that should be or has to be done.

When looking at blank descriptions always look at the tip size. The higher the number the stiffer the blank is. EX, a blank with a # 5 tip top will flex much more than a blank with a # 12 tip top. Understand I am talking in generalities.

Page 60, 2003 1st Edition catalog under Netcfaft fiberglass blanks. I like to bucktail fluke in shallow water. I would try 297-114x. for stripers I would try 297-270 as i like to fish on a lighter side. I have never seen these blanks but hopefully this will give you an idea.

When I first started out I ordered for Janns and was always please with their service and quality.

I hope this helps.
