Is it legal for a Capt. to sell fish caught by his charter?
If not, one of the advertisers here just admitted to doing just that.

That may vary by state. And I'm not sure about the federal regs on tuna but it's been discussed here before causing me more confusion. But in NY, no, fish caught on a "charter" cannot be sold.

It depends!
Many charter boats also have commercial licenses, and will sometime invite "regulars" to pinhook for them, i.e. be part of the crew on a commercial trip.

That would not be a charter then.

Stop looking too much into it...

The capt. doesn't admit to anything. He simply stated the price per pound of striper on the east end and then that leftover blues would be eaten by some folks in NYC. Nothing more.

And he offered up the info only because others slammed him for taking (what they deemed) too many fish.

Get over it. Kids had a great time and parents filled some empty freezer space.

There is a report called "Blitz at the Point" in the Reports section.

Apparently the desk jockeys are once again telling people how many fish they should keep & so forth.
It's a posted report for a Montauk charter.

Montauk

Not sure if I did the link correctly.
He never said he was selling any fish, just how much it would be worth if they had to buy it.

Try again! As I just posted in the reports section.........

selling fish from a charter? Not quite legal Cap. Glad the kids had a good time, but .........
Who said he was selling the fish?? The POINT of Mark's post was that IF you were to go and BUY as much fish on the East end (at nearly $20 per pound) that these guys caught on their trip then the 40 pounds of fish they caught on this charter would have cost them at least $800, and therefore the cost of the charter was a good value considering how much they got to take home for their table!!!! Comprende?

If you are going to post negative comments, at least make sure your reading comprehension is high enough to pass one of those state tests our kids take!!!
Sheesh!!

As Paul wrote recently in this forum .... RIF:rolleyes:
"Any blues the CUSTOMERS didn't want found their way to the city, iced heavy in a box." Did the good Capt. send the fish on a day trip to see the sights or send them to market? RIF indeed!
It's a fair assumption to make. But it's still not stated that the fish were sold.

Hopefully the Capt. wouldn't engage in and then post about unlawful activities.

Exactly Chris It does not say they were sold. The only issue of money came up regarding the price of bass on the east end. I'm sure those bluefish will bring in top dollar if they had been sold to the market:rolleyes:

i dont get it, i feel like people just look for anyway to accuse someone of wrong doing. its like people have no life but to take other peoples statements twist their words around and make seem like there doing something wrong, but in all reality your the one who has no life but to accuse a hard working boat captain of wrong doing.
sometimes things are left better unsaid.

So nice to see that some guys are so happy that some kids had a great day fishing with their dads (note the sarcaism)

I counted the fish in the pic, not a single law was broken. It's the same old crap with some of you, and since we're dealing with the grand exhalted striper here, the nonsense is coming, as always, from those who practice a certain form of saltwater angling ( hint: they do this form of fishing cause they get seasick
)
I mean, the comments in some of those posts are so assinine ( "bloodbath") you'd think a card-carrying PETA member registered on Noreast just to stir up nonsense .

Guess it's too much to ask for people to just keep their posts to themselves if they have nothing constructive to say. That's fine, that is what I am here for
!!! It's actually pretty disgusting that a few dads can't take their kids fishing and not violate any fishery regs but they still have to take crap from the closet enviros and for-hire fleet haters ( why don't you just admit it, Bucktail). Hope they don't decide to show the kids the report Mark posted on Noreast.com

Ironically, this thread was started by someone who claims he hates internet fishing reports, yet he seems to still be reading them
.

"sell fish caught by his charter?"...I read the fishing report, and I wonder, how in the **** did you reach that conclusion?
Not referring to this post but it's done everyday in certain ports.

See it with my own eyes.
