Well, this is the next project to tackle.. I have decided to go with a 15 or 12 foot ( does anyone know how to properly calculate the needed length?) Rupp rigger to round out the spread. I just got tired of running a rod out of the rocket launcher. below is a photo. Here are my questions: First, I know I have to move the EPIRB and the hydrostatic release.. I have a spot for that. Is it recommended to have a backing plate, or are some big fender washers sufficient? Once I install the CR, where is the best spot to place the halyard? do I go to a gunnel, or should I place it on the overhang just below the rocket launchers?

Thanks,

Ryan

ps. The rusty speaker is already trashed...Dont listen to Bose when they say "all-weather"

i would put a backing pate underneath the rigger for added support and to take stress off the hard top a simple piece of starboard would work fine or a sheet of aluminum.

I would mount the halyard on the over hang so it is out of the way.

Thanks Blake.... I'll have to see if I can get the aluminum in that spot... I have a power tower top so there is a wire lead down the center of the top....I may be able to snake it between the two...

Are you buying a center rigger or just the pole? Center rigger kits come with a mount. Whether you need a backing plate or not is going to depend on what you mount it on and where the mounts holes line up. If I were you I would consider mounting the rigger lower. No reason it has to be that high, and if you mount it lower you will find it easier to adjust and rerig when necessary. IN any event I would run the halyard to somewhere around your ladder opening so it can be reached easily from the ****pit.

If you want you can stop by Stone Cove and take a look at my boat. She's on the left as you drive into the marina, just befoe the docks. This is what she looks like.

If you didn't have that canvas, a pole mount would suit your boat nicely, you have that bar running under your top, a bolt on rigger would be perfect. But your canvas/isinglass is in the way... Whatever you end up doing you could run the halyard to the ladder area as MM recommends or you could run up to the bridge and the helmsman will operate it. It gets kind of annoying though with it so high up, you'll see, one person has to point the tip of the rod up to captain so he can grab it and pop in the line.

Mine is though bolted and backed on a pivoting tripod mount. I have an Ocean 42 with a cored hard top. With the center rigger in the up positon (thats where I troll it) it is at the same height as the outriggers when they are raised. I'll see if i have a picture somewhere I can post. My feeling is the higher the better. If you're trolling a way back line and want to keep it shipping on top you almost can't get it too high.

The halyard mounts to the floor of the bridgedeck so I can easily reach the halyard. I think if you mounted it to the hardtop you'd have a tough time reaching it IMHO.

Hey Mike, thanks for the advice..... My goals on this were to get the center rigger onto the hard top, and get the rigging into the ****pit, and not in the FB as I had it. I like the idea of mounting the halyard around the ladder area, I just have to decide the spot, but as far as mounting it lower, I feel that it will cause me more problems than good... I like to keep my panels up when Im not there, and I just like the look of the rigger on the HardTop...makes me feel like more of a battlewagon

edit: I was able to get the bare pole and the rigger mount for $513, which, for the product, was pretty reasonable for the quotes that I received.

Sure I could have done cheaper and all that, but you know what... Look at my rig.... do you think I want to cheap out or do you think that a painters pole in the center rigger would look and prefrom as good as what I have???

Hey, its important for you to like the way it looks. But the drawback from mounting it up there is that if you ever break the halyard when you're out fihing you'll play **** trying to rerig it.
