Somebody tell me this isn't true!!

Well, here's an interesting transcript. When, in Sept. 2002, CNN's
Jamie McIntyre showed Rumsfeld the now infamous picture of
Rumsfeld shaking hands with Saddam Hussein in 1983
(picture) immediately after Saddam had used chemical
weapons against the Iranians and Kurds, not only did CNN scrub the
photo from the internet, they censored any mention of the video/photo at
all in the interview.

Here's the transcript as posted on CNN's website, and below it is the
transcript as it actually occurred:

CNN.com - Rumsfeld on Iraq:

MCINTYRE: Well, let me take you back about 20 years ago. The date, I
believe, was December 20th, 1983, you were meeting with Saddam
Hussein. Tell me what was going on during this meeting.

RUMSFELD: Well, Iraq was in a battle, war with Iran. And the United
States had just had 241 Marines killed.

But, from the DoD's own copy of the transcript:

McIntyre: Well, let me take you back to about 20 years ago. The date, I
believe, was December 20, 1983. You were meeting with Saddam
Hussein, I think we have some video of that meeting. Tell me what was
going on during this meeting?

Rumsfeld: Where did you get this video, from the Iraqi television?

McIntyre: This is from the Iraqi television.

Rumsfeld: When did they give it to you, recently or back then?

McIntyre: We dug this out of the CNN library.

Rumsfeld: I see. Isn't that interesting. There I am.

McIntyre: So what was going on here, what were you thinking at the
time?

Rumsfeld: Well, Iraq was in a battle, a war, with Iran....

******************

The issue here is the ongoing censorship by CNN and the rest of the
corporate media, of what is really going on.

Rumsfeld was in Iraq in 1983 as a private citizen asked by President
Reagan to travel there. In addition, at the time the Bechtel Corporation
was attempting to negotiate an oil pipeline with Iraq, which was to go
through Jordan to the Gulf of Aqaba. Top members of the Reagan
cabinet (Shultz, Weinberger, others) were officials of Bechtel, with the
exception of Gen. Alexander Haig. This part of the story -- the oil
pipeline -- keeps getting lost amidst all the clouds of poisonous
gasses sold to Iraq by US and German corporations.

Great picture.

This war has { had? } nothing to do with chemical weapons though. It's all about Sept. 11, & teaching bad guys with the same radical ideology a lesson . & you can take that to the bank, & as an American I think it 's a good thing. Hence the reason Europe & Canada wasnt supporting us, thier tallest buildings werent crashed with jets full of innocent citizens ......
God bless America & Great Britain & the other supporters of this action.

Yes, after an attack like Sept.11, by people who blow themselves up like they do

Ding, Ding , Ding,

Sometimes you just got to do something is right , to preserve our country from more Sept. 11's

Maybe now those people will learn to be more responsible as a group or @ least not commit acts of terrorism here again.

Hey, that was pretty funny,
ding ding ding , classy guy

Hey Skatemaster, 1 more thing

Why THE **** would you post that link with the story of an American soldier whom accidentlly killed a store keeper with a knife thinking he was a looter.
How the **** could you do that , with these great men & women over there doing thier duty for you & our country ? Who's side are you on, your out of your mind to post that.
What, did you go to the Jane Fonda school of Patriotism ?
Sickining ....

It's an anecdotal story about the misdirection of American firepower and corruption of good intentions. I see parallels between that particular action and the greater conflict. It was posted as a story, not as some condemnation of the American military. If that is unpatriotic and Jane Fonda-ish in your opinion, so be it.

We agree on some points. Chemical weapons was a smoke screen, an excuse to get in there and show some American might.

I don't think that it is right to make anyone a scapegoat, even the evil Saddam. Especially when that takes attention and resources away from the pursuit of the real target. It turns a real issue into a matter of politics.

Funny when ever there is a politcal thread started you see the same names pop with posts bashing america or bush.

Are they Gore workers or DNC workers who lost their jobs after the elections
Or do they just hate this country so much they are trying to distroy from within.
Or are they on the Goverment tit and are afraid if the the Dems don't regain power they can't suckle on the goverment tit any more

Can we just stick to the discussion, rather than personalizing it and attacking the posters?

It's the same posters and the same posts on all sides, because it's the same issues and the arguments haven't changed.

Yeah, well...A bear and a rabbit were next to each other, taking a crap in the woods.

The bear said to the rabbit, "do you have a problem with crap sticking to your fur?". The rabbit daid "nope, never".

so, the bear wiped his butt with the rabbit.

SMOKE SCREEN

In my opinion it is a bit simplistic to call chemical weapons a smoke screen. After watching and reading about our actions in Iraq and especially after hearing the rhetoric coming out of Washington about Syria, the underlying goal of this action has to have been to send a message that terrorism inflicted within the US borders will not be tolerated.

After seeing what could be done on 9/11 it is perfectly understandable to me that raising the issue of WMD became a much more important issue. Otherwise why did we wait 12 years? Ceratinly Israel and other anti-Iraqi factions were at risk prior to 9/11. Sadaam's willingness to harbor terrorists and outright hatred for the US could not go unchallenged under those circumstances.
The UN resolutions were in place and 9/11 just gave us the impetus to enforce them and at the same time send a strong message to terrorists, countries that harbor terrorists and those who might be thining about it.

Isn't it amazing that suddenly N. Korea has decided to negotiate nuclear arms under our terms? They are half way around the globe and already have nuclear capability. Just imagine what the effect on countries in the Middle East have been.

As far as the argument that this action will ramp up terrorist activity both here and all over the world, small scale terrorism can be handled case by case. Waiting for the big shoe(WMD) to drop is a totally different issue. And I believ that it was just a matter of time before someone like Sadaam developed and then either used or supplied WMD to terrorists.
