Fellow Boaters:

A friend who works on Moriches Bay told me that the channel from buoy 24 to buoy 27 (just south of Moriches CG Station heading east) no longer exists due to severe shoaling- and that several groundings are occurring there each week. There is a natural channel (unmarked) that runs near the shore line thru Harts Cove that may be used except in dead low tide- but it's best to avoid this area entirely if possible.

Just spoke to Tom out of South Shore Boats last week and he mentioned the problem. 2-3 of their boats on test runs were grounded there. Very slight margin of error, probably 2 to 2 1/2 at low tide. CG has been informed. Hopefully the boating traffic will help blow some of the sand/mud out of the channel

The rumor is that the bay is going to be dredged this year as well as the inlet. My boat has a real shallow draft, but it is still unnerving when you're doing 25 knots and see bottom only 2-3 feet below you. I think they will be dredging because a few weeks ago I saw a boat doing grids all over the bay (soundings).
