I do most of the fishing in JAMAICA BAY, usually in the BREEZY POINT area. When i fish their i usually catch fluke, mayb 1 or 2, mayb 3 keepers, and 10-30 shorts. But for every fluke their is like 15 searobin. I know any rig, bait, lure, will catch searobin, but, is their any specific rig, that would limit down then abundance of searobin coming into the boat or pier?? their are so many! i usually use a 2 way swivel clip w/ sinker pin. I use a 36" leader 4/0 wide gap fluke hook with 2 spering. It is not rare to catch 100 searobin in one day, and only 20 fluke. (mayb 2 keepers)

i think a 5 inch live snapper on a 5/0 wide gap hook is awesome bait for a fluke.........

BUT NOT IN EARLY JULY. I HAVENT SEEN ANY SNAPPERS AROUND. YOU CAN CATCH THEM ON A SNAPPER POPPER OR 2 INCH CROCODILE USUALLY IN AUGUST, I THINK. WHEN DO SNAPPERS COME AROUND ANYWAY?

Depending on where you are they should start showing up VERY SOON ;)

If the robins are around I think they'll hit pretty much anything. And they love just plain old spearing. Last few trips in Raritan Bay haven't produced many though, but had one large bird on a bucktail. Haven't had one hit a live snapper yet though ;)

Gami, good to hear you should be able to make it on the 21st. We're gonna kick some conger butt. Hopefully, I'll be able to get us some snappers and PBs!!!

By the time they are biting Krocs, they just about too big, although some of them are still good. I like with ones that you catch on Sabikis at the end of July better.

GT, It's looking better all the time for the 21st.

snapper

i use the 2 inch crocodiles. they arents really crocodiles, they are miniature replicas. they are 1/4 ounce small shiny lures witha single treble hook. when the snappers are their it is easy to catch your limit of 10 in 10 minutes. but, when i fish off of the pier and the snappers are around, i catch the smallest one, put him on the hook on my larger pole, then deadstik it. i catch another snapper and leave him in my bait bucket.
