That's an excellent question!
First of all… if you want more distance… here are the following factors you should know…

A longer rod will definitely give you more distance….
A thinner / lighter line will increase your distance….
A softer (parabolic) rod will cast smaller lures further….
A fast action rod (graphite) will increase your casting accuracy…

Given all that… this is what I recommend if you are looking to toss small swimming lures in the ¾ - 1 ½ ounce. I recommend that you downsize the line to 10lbs. test. However, if you need the 15 lbs. test line… I strongly recommend that you use braid line (thinner diameter). But I caution you to lighten up the drag because the new high tech lines are less forgiving (no stretch).

As far as the rod length is concerned, you want a stronger and faster action for maximum distance.

How do you cast if the wind is blowing in your face?
Well, in your case, if the wind is blowing "south"… You don't want to cast overhand because it picks up a lot wind… the best way to fight the wind is by casting low and sideways (lower trajectory)!

That is correct… Majorities of the braid lines are stronger than the manufacture claims! At this time, I don't believe that there are any braided line rated/tested by IGFA yet.

Now, if you are looking to maximize your distance… by switching to braid you will automatically do so! However, If the area you are fishing is very sticky (rocky, sharp bars, etc) I would increase the line test by a few lbs. and use a mono. Leader!

As per Doughboy's, "adding weight" comment... That's a great idea but I would NOT use water! In due time, water dissolves.

I'll let you in a secret… I use OIL and in some lures I use ball bearings for added noise!
