Canoe

I also fish often from a canoe. Mostly fresh water in lakes but have used it on the hudson for stripers and on the sound at times. The biggest draw back I have found with the canoe is holding in one spot when it is windy the canoe sits alot higher and catches more wind. Its dryer than a kyack would be and very stable in a chop if you sit low. Kayak would be nice but a canoe is all I have now and it will get you into the same places as a kayak...Bob

I have a canoe and will admit I love being in it and floating around.Mostly use it for camping and going down rivers as well as fishing fresh water lakes & ponds.
She is an oldy but a goody.A Mad River Explorer built in 1985.Weighs a ton ( 85 bulky Royalex lbs) but is a solid, strong weather beaten old scow :)
I bought it from a guy in New Jersey in 2000 for $300 and I must say it has been the best $300 I've ever spent. He had bought it new and had taken good care of it.Mostly used it for his Scouting and teaching kids about canoeing on the Delaware and Lehigh Rivers. His arthritic knees forced him to give up his canoe and it had been stored away under a tarp for a few years waiting for a new owner who would enjoy her and take good care of her.

She has alot of scars and history...
and I plan on adding more :)

Canoe and Kayak

I have a Wenonah Spirit2 that I use for lake fishing (love to stand) and have used it with my kids on many canoe trips in Maine and Canada. I have paddled that baby through some heavy winds both loaded to the gills and empty and always feel that if you know how to handle it you can work in the wind. That being said I love my Prowler 13 Kayak for the Sound and Hudson fishing. The things are just made for fishing fun and cut through the wind and chop with ease. My only downside on the kayak is the lack of standing as I like to stretch my body every now and then (a quick dock at any rocks or beach works).

I will always be a canoe guy at heart but I don't think I would ever want to give up the Kayak for saltwater.

I have what my daughter's boyfriend calls a "pimped up canoe"

trollng motor (55 pound thrust)
stabilizers (so I can get up & walk around)
bow & stern lights (night fishing)
under bench lights - 6 of them (night fishing)
7 rod holders
fish finder
cleats & suction cupped pouches galore (to hold all my stuff out of the middle)
anchor system (that can be used from two positions)
added a horn this year

4 batteries to power it all

Paddleon has seen it.

Use on the Nissequoge River & Stony Brook Harbor/Back of Long Beach.

Great little fishing platform

Yes I've seen it( last year) and all I can say is ...holy smokesthat is one well set up canoe for fishing

Description doesn't do it justice nor will a photo. It has to be seen.
Excellent job rigging her up.

Nice canoe

I paddle with a group that is into standing/ poling their canoes. These guys are an amazing canoe standing bunch and I just a humble novice when in their company.
I also like the ability to move around and stretch with the canoe.
This body aint gettin any younger

I'll post a few poling pics later when I get back.

Alot of these canoe friends/folks can be read about at the Northeast Paddlers Mesage Board.
